Doc Scott

Biography

The recipient of the very first release in the influential Metalheadz Recordings — which he co-founded with Goldie — and an early on inspiration in the jungle star, Doc Scott began producing records in the first times of the ’90s, when jungle is at its tender infancy. The ever-joyous strains of rave and hardcore had been gradually giving method to darker noises, more inspired by hip-hop, and few manufacturers did even more to delivery the dark middle-’90s sound of jungle than Scott. A citizen of Coventry, he was early motivated with the heady moods from the Cutter Runner soundtrack in addition to Detroit figures such as for example Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, and after finding a couple of turntables at age 18, he started DJing. Scott performed live schedules at raves during 1989-90, and immediately after quit his job being a phone employee to enter music full-time. His early recordings for Total 2 like NHS, NHS, Vol. 2 and Medical procedures made him among the best names within the rising hardcore picture, and Scott shortly became area of the Strengthened Recordings crew, including Dego and Tag Macintosh of 4 Hero, and afterwards, Goldie. Scott’s 1992 EP for Reinforced, Nasty Habits’ As Nasty when i Wanna Be, established the template for darkside drum’n’bass using the traditional “Here Arrive the Drumz.” He and Goldie documented several tracks jointly while at Strengthened, then shaped Metalheadz in 1994. The Doc Scott one “VIP Drums” became the label’s initial release, getting started Metalheadz with design and foreshadowing extra releases such as for example “A LONG WAY AWAY” and an revise of “Right here Arrive the Drumz” entitled “Drumz 95.” Scott documented aswell for LTJ Bukem’s BEAUTIFUL Records, and create his very own label in 1996. That same season, he released a quantity within the Mixmag Live! group of DJ albums.

1 I read all the books on Fairfax in the British Library, did a lot of horse riding and studied military tactics of the time, finding out that he actually laid his rose garden out in strategic formations! But Method acting is a label I don't really understand, because there's a method to everybody's acting. In terms of jumping into a character's skin, I try to immerse myself in the role as much as possible to bring me closer to them. All I do is what's required to achieve what I want to achieve.
2 (On his role in Ever After: A Cinderella Story (1998)): "I had never worn a codpiece before and I don't think I ever will again."
3 (When asked to define his career): "I do what I feel is right at the time. Opportunities come along and I take them or I don't. I feel happy about what I'm doing, and I work instinctively. I'm doing a Dylan Thomas film, "Map of Love," with Mick Jagger producing again. It's a wonderful script."
