Dmitri Matheny has already established a dual profession, being a soft-toned and tasteful flugelhornist who often emphasizes melodic ballads, so when an professional and skill scout for the Monarch label. Elevated in Tucson, Az, Matheny was motivated to consider up the trumpet when he was five after his dad played him Mls Davis’ SORT OF Blue. Although he was officially trained for the trumpet, Matheny recommended its mellower aspect and eventually turned solely to flugelhorn. He went to Interlochen Arts Academy as well as the Berklee University of Music and got personal lessons from Artwork Farmer. Matheny graduated from Berklee in 1989, shifted to SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA and formed an area group known as SOMA. He debuted on record and on Monarch with Crimson Reflections in 1996 and adopted it up with Penumbra and Starlight Café; the latter showcases Matheny inside a trio with pianist Darrell Give and bassist Expenses Douglass. Dmitri Matheny shows great potential, both in accumulating Monarch’s roster (he frequently acts as maker) and in carrying out the stunning music that passions him.
