Formed within an industrial portion of Tuscany, Dilatazione (Dilatation) are one of the most well-known post-rock rings from Italy. Brothers Alessio and Patrizio Gioffredi became a member of causes with Alessio Pepi within their hometown, Prato, in 1999. The trio spent the next three years carrying out in Italy and producing demos with Italian-language tunes, before Mirko Bertolucci from the music group Muriel became a member of the group in 2002. Out of this stage on, Dilatazione just performed instrumental tunes, and their status grew in Italy, where they performed over 100 displays in a year or two. Dilatazione documented their debut recording, As well Emotional for Maths, in Bologna during Sept 2005 and asked some close friends to take part in the documenting. The recording features primarily instrumental tunes, though two tunes feature French-language vocals from Amaury Cambuzat (Cambuzat also created Too Psychological for Maths). The recording premiered in 2007 from the fast-growing digital Australian label Hidden Shoal Recordings. For this period, Alessio Gioffredi, while staying a Dilatazione member, became a member of Cambuzat’s music group Ulan Bator.
