Levallet is basically a self-taught bass participant who analyzed journalism at L’Ecole Superieure de Journalisme de Lille (1963-66) and continued for a short while to review bass at Lille Conservatory. He relocated to Paris in 1969 and used an array of regional and visiting music artists including Ted Curson, Hank Mobley, Mal Waldron and Johnny Griffin. He caused the free-jazz quartet Belief through the 70s and worked well in america with tenor saxophonist Byard Lancaster (1974-76). In the first 80s he used Frank Lowe, Archie Shepp, Mike Westbrook’s Concert Music group and Chris McGregor’s Brotherhood Of Breathing aswell as the Two times Quartet with Tony Oxley. He functions within four rings – the Quintet, a 12-piece music group, Swing Strings Program (which utilises seven string players plus drums) and a trio with Dominique Pifarely (violin) and Gérard Marais (acoustic guitar). In 1976, he founded ADMI (Association pour la Developement de la Musique Improvise), which functions as a pressure group and concert organizer.
