Desmond Dupré was a pioneer within the overall performance of lute and viola da gamba through the twentieth hundred years early music revival. After learning chemistry at Oxford, he started his musical teaching in the Royal University of Music in 1946, where he analyzed cello with Ivor Wayne and tranquility with Herbert Howells. The next year, he trained himself the viol and began to perform expertly like a guitarist and in addition like a cellist using the Boyd Neel Orchestra. In 1950, he produced his to begin many recordings with Alfred Deller, associated him on your guitar. After teaching himself the lute, he utilized that instrument for even more collaborations with Deller, including a 1951 Wigmore Hall debut recital, and became the very first president from the Lute Culture (1956-1973). Dupré performed frequently with additional leading early music organizations, like the Julian Bream Consort, the Jacobean Consort of Viols, and Musica Reservata. He documented Bach’s sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord with Thurston Dart, and Dart reconstructed a Handel concerto for lute and harp, which Dupré premiered.
