Department S

Acquiring their name from the 60s television series, Department S progressed from the punk/ska combo Guns For Hire. Though it highlighted several people during its life time, Weapons For Hire was essentially periodic Face article writer Vaughan Toulouse (b. Vaughan Cotillard, 30 July 1959, St Helier, Shirt, Route Islands, d. August 1991; vocals), Mike Herbage (electric guitar), Tony Lordan (bass), Eddie Roxy (b. Edward Lloyd Barnes; keyboards – changed by Tag Taylor in 1981), and Stuart Mizan (drums; changed by Mike Hasler). Hasler, who drummed for Madness within their Invaders times and also maintained the Nips, had written Weapons For Hire’s just one – ‘I’m Gonna Tough My Partner’s Sweetheart Up Tonight’ – which surfaced on Korova Information. The group became Section S by adding Tag Taylor and Stuart Mizan. They produced their live debut on the Rock and roll Backyard, London, in July 1980. Demon Information released their debut one, ‘Is certainly Vic There?’, in 1981. It had been produced by previous Mott The Hoople people Buffin and Overend W, but its achievement resulted in the better-equipped RCA Information selecting it up. The b-side, ‘Solid Platinum Easy Actions’, presented Bananarama on support vocals. Two additional singles adopted on Stiff Information but a well planned recording was aborted when neither solitary charted. Toulouse came back to are a disk jockey, before re-emerging with Primary T on Paul Weller’s Respond label. When two additional singles flopped it became the finish of his carrying out career, apart from efforts to Weller’s Council Collective offshoot on ‘Spirit Deep’, a miners’ hit advantage. He was also associated with the Style Council among the personalities behind the ‘Cappacino Child’, whose composing graced the music group’s sleeves. Toulouse passed away in August 1991 following a very long illness due to AIDS. Of the rest from the music group, Lordan and Taylor had been lately accounted for to be a postman and cab drivers, respectively.
