Dennis Wilson

Wilson is a profession big music group musician and educator. He spent 10 plus years with Count number Basie and used the Dizzy Gillespie Big Music group and THE BRAND NEW Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, amongst others. Wilson went to the Berklee University of Music, graduating in 1974 using a BM in music education. He was an associate of Lionel Hampton’s orchestra from 1973-5; he was the band’s music movie director for 1 . 5 years. Wilson also proved helpful freelance with such bandleaders as Clark Terry and Stan Kenton before getting his gig with Basie in 1977. Wilson performed on many Basie albums, and led the music group (after Basie’s loss of life) since it supported Manhattan Transfer on the 1985 record Vocalese. Wilson do the arranging for the album, that he received a Grammy nomination. In the ’90s Wilson became a member of trumpeter Jon Faddis’s Carnegie Hall Jazz Music group in NY; he executed the band within a concert tribute to Basie in 1994. That season he became a member of the faculty of Kansas Condition College or university as Movie director of Jazz Research. In 1998 he was called Associate Dean for the faculty of Arts and Sciences at the institution. Wilson was called Artist in Home for the San Jose Jazz Culture in 2001; his responsibilities consist of directing and executing using the San Jose Jazz Orchestra. By 2002 he previously joined up with the jazz faculty on the College or university of Michigan. As of this writing he’s also the Music Creation Supervisor for the Basie orchestra, billed with the advancement of “The Basie Method,” the band’s music education plan.
