Cass Browne helped to brighten the UK individual scene while drummer with pop punksters, the Senseless Items. From then on group disbanded in 1996, he retreated to his Twickenham, London foundation, where he teamed up with older friend Des Murphy and embarked on a fresh musical direction educated by his newfound fascination with samplers. Among the duo’s 1st live looks was on BBC2’s Newsnight, having been asked on the display to represent fresh British talent by the end of a dialogue about the existing state from the music market. The minor strike singles ‘The Rock and roll’ and ‘C’mon Cincinnati’ (with vocals by Rose Smith) had been featured on the 1998 debut One Like, a soulful fusion of hip-hop, big master and indie rock and roll that drew unavoidable evaluations to Beck as well as the Beastie Kids. The next March the duo finished a remix of young pop celebrity Billie’s ‘Honey TOWARDS THE B’ and parted business with Go! Defeat.
