Debo Band

Debo Band certainly are a Boston-based ensemble who play music heavily inspired by Ethiopian pop music aswell as American funk and Eastern Western brass rings. Founded in 2006 by saxophonist Danny Mekonnen, the group is definitely led by vocalist Bruck Tesfaye. Additional members consist of guitarist Brendon Real wood and electrical violinist Jonah Rapino (both of Devil Music), accordion participant Marié Abe (Japonize Elephants), violinist Käthe Hostetter (Qwanqwa), and sousaphonist Arik Grier (Body fat Day time). They possess toured Ethiopia double and performed in the Ethiopian Music Event in Addis Ababa aswell as Sauti Za Busara in Zanzibar. Their first documenting, live EP Flamingoh (Red Parrot Dawn), was released this year 2010. In 2012, American indie rock and roll label Sub Pop released Debo Band’s self-titled debut full-length, that was made by Addis Ababa-born Thomas Gobena, bassist for New York-based Gypsy punks Gogol Bordello. In 2016, the group’s second recording, Ere Gobez, premiered by FPE Information.
