Death and Vanilla

Having a sound that marries vintage keyboards to subdued psychedelic pop with heavy soundtrack and dream pop influences, the Swedish duo Death and Vanilla found the torch that bands like Broadcast and Stereolab carried so well in the ’90s and 2000s. Created in the city of Malmö, Sweden by Marleen Nilsson and Anders Hansson, the set debuted on record having a self-titled four-song EP this year 2010. Using classic devices including Moog synths and Mellotrons, their audio was dreamlike and incredibly precise simultaneously. They came back in 2012 having a self-titled full-length recording, which just like the earlier EP premiered by Hands at night Information. That same 12 months the music group was invited from the Lund Fantastisk Film Event to supply the live soundtrack for any testing of Carl Theodor Dreyers’ 1932 horror film Vampyr (1932), that they extended the group’s lineup to add Magnus Bodin on Moog and Petter Herbertsson on bass and glockenspiel, with Magnus Westerholm offering vibraphonette and percussion. The music was documented and released on cassette in 2013 from the Moon Glyph label (and reissued on vinyl fabric in 2017 by Open fire Information). After liberating the “From Above” solitary in 2013, the duo captured the hearing of Fire Information, who authorized them because they began focus on their following recording. Employed in their rehearsal space, Nilsson and Hansson documented their songs using one mike just, a Sennheiser from your ’70s they discovered for inexpensive at a flea marketplace. Called after Maurice Sendak’s traditional children’s publication, To Where in fact the Crazy Things Are premiered on vinyl fabric and Compact disc by Fire in-may of 2015. A season later, Fireplace reissued an extended edition of their debut EP, aswell as their initial record.
