b. Joseph De Lacrois Pierce, 18 Feb 1904, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, d. 23 November 1973, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. For quite some time, playing the cornet was just a secondary job to Pierce, in keeping with lots of the old era of New Orleans music artists who typically and rightly viewed music as an unreliable business. In Pierce’s case, nevertheless, he held up a ‘time work’ rather much longer than most rather than until after his relationship in 1935 to singer-pianist Billie Goodson (Billie Pierce) do he devote himself to some musical profession. The husband-and-wife duo proved helpful frequently, although still in just a limited region, until Pierce retired briefly within the 50s through sick health and declining eyesight. The duo enjoyed a resurgence in the middle-60s achieving worldwide fame using a succession of concert travels and information and, inevitably probably, regular performances at Preservation Hall, where they interested the travelers of New Orleans.
