Dazz Band

The Cleveland-based Dazz Music group was one of the most popular funk sets of the first ’80s. Bobby Harris produced the group in the past due ’70s, merging two Cleveland funk rings, Bell Telefunk and Mom Braintree. After myriad lineup adjustments, the outcome was an eight-piece music group featuring Harris, Neglect Martin III, Pierre DeMudd on horns and vocals, guitarist Eric Fearman, bassist Michael Wiley, drummer Isaac Wiley, keyboardist Kevin Frederick, and percussionist Kenny Pettus. Harris and business lead songwriter/guitarist Mike Calhoun’s idea for the group was “danceable jazz”; he shortened the explanation to “dazz” and known as the group Kinsman Dazz. Under that name, the group acquired two small strikes within the U.S.A. during 1978 and 1979. After Calhoun still left they transformed their name towards the Dazz Music group in 1980 and agreed upon to Motown. Invitation to Like, the band’s 1st launch for the record label, premiered in 1980. After the group veered from the greater melodic, pop-oriented dance music that dominated their debut and began playing a tougher, even more groove-oriented funk, the Dazz Music group began accumulating the strikes. “ALLOW IT Whip,” extracted from their second recording Maintain It Live (1982), reached quantity five and earned a Grammy Award for Greatest Efficiency by an R&B Vocal Duo or Group. While they under no circumstances reached those levels once again, the Dazz Music group got a string of six consecutive Best 100 albums that went until 1986; throughout that period, they obtained two other Best 100 singles, “Joystick” and “ALLOW IT All Blow.” In 1985, Fearman and Frederick remaining the band; these were changed by Marlon McClain and Keith Harrison, respectively. The Dazz Music group switched brands to Geffen in 1986. That yr that they had their last charting recording, Wild and Totally free. Immediately after its launch, the band turned to RCA. The group didn’t have another strike and quietly faded out.
