David Zoffer

Known in the Boston area for his duets with guitarist Adam Larrabee, David Zoffer is certainly a versatile, broad-minded jazz pianist who’s also quite comfy playing rock and roll and funk. Zoffer provides spent a lot of his adult lifestyle in Boston, but his city is certainly Pittsburgh — as well as the acoustic pianist continues to be quoted as stating that Pennsylvania’s second-largest town did too much to form his musical character. Zoffer, who was simply given birth to in Pittsburgh on January 21, 1972, offers remarked that Steeltown is well known for having a whole lot of gritty, hard-swinging improvisers — Stanley Turrentine, George Benson, Artwork Blakey, Ahmad Jamal, and saxman Kenny Blake will be the type of extroverted players who’ve been a part of Pittsburgh’s jazz picture over time. And Zoffer, that has cited Gene Harris and New Orleans heavyweight Wayne Booker as his preferred pianists, obviously recognizes with Pittsburgh’s lengthy custom of gutsy, cool, blues-minded jazzmen. Developing up in Pittsburgh, Zoffer discovered a whole lot about jazz from his dad, who wasn’t a specialist full-time musician but was an obsessive jazz collector. Zoffer’s sibling, in the mean time, was a musician who motivated his desire for rock and roll — so the pianist (who also performs organ and acoustic guitar) finished up playing both jazz and rock and roll when he was developing up. After achieving adulthood, Zoffer relocated to Boston in 1994 and continued to teach in the exclusive New Britain Conservatory (NEC). Boston is usually where he fulfilled Larrabee, who also shows at NEC. The interesting point about Zoffer and Larrabee’s romantic piano/acoustic guitar duets may be the truth that both musicians result from completely different musical backgrounds; while Zoffer may be the substance of soulful grit, Larrabee can be an introspective type of participant whose influences consist of Pat Metheny, John Abercrombie, as well as the ECM Information catalog. Yet, each of them have had no issue finding common floor and sounding extremely cohesive — Zoffer offers asserted that Larrabee stimulates him to become more lyrical and ethereal and he motivates Larrabee to golf swing harder. In 1999 and 2000, the Zoffer/Larrabee duo documented the live shows that are noticed on their Compact disc Courage in Closeness: Reside in Boston, that was released on Zoffer’s very own label, Zofco Information. When Zoffer isn’t teaching at NEC or executing duets with Larrabee, he network marketing leads a Boston-based funk-rock clothing known as the David Zoffer Differential (whose ’90s produces included the two-CD established The start of the finish, Vols. 1 & 2 as well as the EP Superbaby, both on Zofco).
