David Peaston

David Peaston’s inability to get a foothold in the metropolitan contemporary scene is among the mysteries from the past due ’80s and early ’90s. His large, bombastic voice shows great family root base; his mom Martha Bass was among the Clara Ward Singers and an excellent gospel performer, while his sister Fontella Bass provides equally recognized gospel and spirit credentials. He began as a instructor and after getting let go in 1981, Peaston transferred from St. Louis to NY. He began carrying out session function and auditioned for a job in the gospel musical DO NOT GET God Began. He also auditioned for an area in the Apollo’s well-known Amateur Evening competition. He became a highlighted attraction in the syndicated Showtime on the Apollo in 1988 and finally landed a cope with Geffen. His 1989 LP Presenting…David Peaston was among that year’s most popular & most soulful releases, and he also toured with Gladys Knight in the us and Gerald Alston in Britain. Peaston transferred to MCA for the 1991 discharge Mixed Feelings, but didn’t get the essential crossover publicity or breakout metropolitan hit he had a need to get the identification he deserved.
