Biography

David Jacobs-Strain has shown to be a breathing of oxygen on both folk celebration and blues celebration circuits, as his electric guitar playing design fuses components of both traditional and modern folk and blues. Blessed in Connecticut but shifting to Eugene, Oregon along with his family members, Jacobs-Strain graduated from South Eugene SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL in 2001 and went to college in North California. He started associated himself on electric guitar while singing being a nine-year-old, with a lot of encouragement from his electric guitar instructor, Eugene-area folksinger Emily Fox. One of the primary tunes he discovered was Bessie Smith’s “Backwater Blues,” and he became even more captivated by blues than he was with traditional folk music. His parents had taken him to find out concert events by Taj Mahal and Walker T. Ryan at the neighborhood movie theater, and he also extended his understanding of the blues by hearing previous acoustic blues experts like Mississippi Fred McDowell, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Robert Johnson, and Neglect James. Another local influence was North California-based guitarist Bob Brozman, who performed in Eugene’s theatre and influenced Jacobs-Strain to understand to play slip acoustic guitar. A year later on, Jacobs-Strain opened up for Brozman at the same theatre.
