Davell Crawford

Vocalist and pianist Davell Crawford continues the brand new Orleans piano custom begun by music artists like Teacher Longhair and Wayne Booker. Crawford may be the grandson of 1950s R&B celebrity James “Sugars Boy” Crawford. His debut record, Allow Them Chat (1995, Rounder Information), amply shows his gospel, R&B and jazz affects. His present for ballad performing is on screen in full pressure, and he’s followed by a number of the Crescent City’s best music artists, including drummer Herman Ernest III and saxophonist Alvin “Crimson” Tyler. Crawford continues to be playing piano since he was seven and 1st toured European countries in his early teenagers. Although Crawford didn’t understand his grandfather was a musician, the elder Crawford do give a group of keyboards to him when he was 11. Like additional youthful New Orleans music artists, Crawford brings a synthesis of designs (i.e., funk, gospel, and R&B) to his piano playing, songwriting and performing. His recordings consist of 1995’s Allow Them Speak, 1996’s Just Close friends, 1998’s B-3 and Me and 1999’s Like Like Yours and Mine.
