Dave Pell

Dave Pell began touring using the Tony Pastor, Bob Astor, and Bobby Sherwood rings as an adolescent, before moving to California within the mid-’40s. He discovered use Bob Crosby in the latter’s Ford radio present in 1946, after that used the Les Dark brown music group from 1947 to 1955. Sketching from the rates of the Dark brown band, he started leading his very own groupings in 1953, generally within an octet format, augmented by guests like Pepper Adams, Benny Carter, Mel Lewis, Crimson Mitchell, Marty Paich, and Artwork Pepper. He also performed being a sideman on information by Shorty Rogers, Pete Rugolo, Benny Goodman, and Gene Krupa in the 1950s, while documenting under his personal name for Atlantic, Kapp, Coral, Capitol, and RCA Victor. His main concentrate of activity in the 1950s and ’60s is at the record business, operating as a maker for the spending budget Tops label within the ’50s, and Liberty (where he supervised several hit pop/rock and roll information for Gary Lewis & the Playboys) and briefly Uni within the ’60s. He created an organization in the past due ’70s known as Prez Meeting, a variation within the theme of Supersax, like a tribute to Lester Adolescent, documenting two albums for GNP/Crescendo. Within the ’80s and ’90s, Pell revived his octet for recordings on the new Audio (1984) and Headfirst (1988) brands, and sporadic live times within the Los Angeles region, including an appearance in the Jazz West Coastline event in 1994.
