Dave Myers

Celebrated among the main architects from the classic Chicago blues sound, bassist Dave Myers was created Oct 30, 1926, in Byhalia, MS. He and guitarist sibling Louis discovered the blues from Lonnie Johnson, who resided in the family’s cellar. By his teenagers, Myers was a staple at regional rent house celebrations alongside famous brands Sonny Guy Williamson, Robert Nighthawk, and Memphis Minnie. He and Louis relocated to Chicago in 1941, and four years afterwards, the siblings produced the Little Children, rechristened the Three Deuces by adding harpist Junior Wells. The Windy City’s initial electric blues music group, the group — which following settled over the moniker the Three Aces — quickly surfaced among the most well-known attractions on the neighborhood music scene, learning to be a fixture at night clubs, including the famous Checkerboard Lounge and Theresa’s; significantly inspired by jazz, they honed an urbane, advanced approach well before its period, with Myers’ simple, percussive rhythms gaining him the nickname “Thumper.” Using the 1950 enlistment of drummer Fred Below, the quartet once again transformed its name, this time around towards the Four Aces; finally, to simplify issues forever, the group performed as basically the Aces. In 1952, Wells exited to become listed on the Muddy Waters music group, filling up the vacancy made by the latest departure of harpist Small Walter Jacobs; ironically, Jacobs himself quickly agreed upon the rest of the Aces as his brand-new backing device, renaming the trio the Jukes. Some seminal recordings implemented — “Mean Aged Globe,” “Sad Hours,” “Off the beaten track,” and “Inform Me Mama” included in this — before Louis’ 1954 leave led to the Jukes’ continuous dissolution. The initial bluesman to look at the electrical bass, Dave Myers after that became Chicago’s premiere program bassist through the entire 1950s, showing up on classes headlined by everyone from Otis Hurry to Earl Hooker. In 1970, the Myers brothers and Below reunited beneath the Aces moniker in 1970 to tour European countries before once more going their distinct ways. Dave later on formed the brand new Aces with Fabulous Thunderbirds frontman Kim Wilson, guitarist Robert Jr. Lockwood (Louis’ alternative in the Jukes), and drummer Kenny Smith. Though preferring sideman responsibilities throughout his profession, in 1998, Dave Myers finally headlined his 1st solo work, the Black Best label launch You Can’t DO THIS. Regardless of the 2000 amputation of the leg because of problems from diabetes, Myers still performed frequently in the weeks to follow, producing his final general public appearance in Feb of 2001; he passed away September 3 of this year at age 74.
