Dave Matthews

b. 6 June 1911, Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA, d. 1997. As a man Matthews examined music in Oklahoma and Chicago. He became efficient on alto and tenor saxophones and in addition developed abilities as an arranger. Swept up in the golf swing era, he performed (mainly alto) with Ben Pollack, Jimmy Dorsey and Benny Goodman. In 1939 he still left Goodman to look with Harry Adam who had produced a new group.
