Dark City Sisters

The Dark Town Sisters were several session singers who came together to record an album and along the way popularized a forward thinking new design of singing. Instead of singing a typical four-part tranquility, the Sisters utilized five parts, which made a richer build. Sometimes referred to as “vocal jive,” this system was subsumed beneath the umbrella term “mbaqanga,” meaning, actually, dumpling, and figuratively, a homegrown design.
