Da King & I

This jazz and dancehall-influenced Brooklyn duo comprising Izzy, the MC, and Majesty, the DJ produced some rumblings in 1993 making use of their only LP, Contemporary Jeep Music, primarily on the effectiveness of two singles, “Flip Da Script” and “Tears.” Conceived and made by Atlanta hip-hop mogul, Dallas Austin, the duo’s audio is certainly jazzy East Coastline hip-hop with hook southern twang. Although somewhat similar to Pete Rock and roll & CL Simple, their audio is relatively specific. Izzy’s tone of voice and lyrical capability are quite outstanding and the record still sounds simple and fairly clean today. Sadly, the duo was struggling to carve out their very own niche in the first ’90s between your hardcore pillars of Onyx and Naughty NATURALLY, and nary a peep continues to be heard from their website since.
