Crown Prince Waterford

b. Charles Waterford, 21 Oct 1919, Jonesboro, Arkansas, USA. Waterford’s parents, who had been both musicians, trained their kid to sing. His initial professional jobs had been with Andy Kirk’s 12 Clouds Of Pleasure and Leslie Sheffield’s Rhythmaires. Waterford became referred to as ‘the Crown Prince FROM THE Blues’ during his short stick with Jay McShann’s Orchestra, where time he documented for Philo/Aladdin and Top/ Mercury. Usurped by Jimmy Witherspoon, Waterford proceeded to go single in 1946 to record in Chicago for Hy-Tone, and the next year documented his most celebrated songs in LA for Capitol Information with Pete Johnson’s music group. These included the salacious ‘Move Your Hands Baby’. Waterford rejoined McShann at a 1949 documenting session for Jack port Lauderdale and produced four superb songs for Ruler with youthful Harold Property And His All-Stars, and another four using the Joe Thomas Orchestra. A middle-50s program for Excello Information led to two songs of perfect blues shouting, but later on information for Orbit and Stampede attempted to appeal towards the twist trend and sank into obscurity. In comparison, Waterford’s earlier edges show him to become a genuine blues singer; the majority of his tunes had been self-penned and presented highly unique and evocative lyrics. Waterford continues to be alive, and far of his period within the last 30 years have been specialized in the chapel until 2003, when he documented an all-new recording.
