Creedence Clearwater Revival

Biography

At the same time when rock and roll was evolving from the forces that had produced the music possible to begin with, Creedence Clearwater Revival brought things back again to their origins making use of their concise synthesis of rockabilly, swamp pop, R&B, and country. Although music of CCR was quite definitely a group work in their limited, punchy preparations, their eyesight was quite definitely vocalist, songwriter, guitarist, and innovator John Fogerty’s. Fogerty’s traditional compositions for Creedence both evoked long lasting pictures of Americana and shown burning social problems of your day. The band’s genius was their capability to accomplish this using the financial, primal power of a vintage rockabilly ensemble. The main element components of Creedence have been woodshedding in pub bands for approximately ten years before their breakthrough to nationwide achievement in the past due ’60s. John’s old brother Tom shaped the Blue Velvets in the past due ’50s in Un Cerrito, California, a little suburb over the bay from SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA. By the middle-’60s, with several hopelessly obscure recordings under their belt, the music group — including Tom and John with two high-school close friends, drummer Doug Clifford and bassist Stu Make — authorized to Fantasy, liberating several singles because the Golliwogs that proceeded to go nowhere. Actually, there’s little guarantee found on those early attempts; they were incredibly derivative from the English Invasion along with other R&B and rock and roll trends of your day, with few tips from the swampy origins rock and roll that could characterize CCR. The group just discovered themselves when John had taken firm reins on the band’s path, singing and composing virtually all of the material. On the first record, 1968’s Creedence Clearwater Revival, the group performed it both methods, offering expanded, quasi-psychedelic workouts from the ’50s classics “I Place a Spell you” and “Suzie-Q.” The last mentioned melody became their first big strike, but the music group didn’t actually bloom until “Very pleased Mary,” lots two one in early 1969 that showed John’s skill at experiencing Southern root base music and imagery with an all natural ease. It had been the beginning of a torrent of traditional hits in the gritty, Small Richard-inspired singer on the next 2 yrs, including “Poor Moon Increasing,” “Green River,” “Down on the Part,” “Travelin’ Music group,” “Who’ll Prevent the Rainfall,” “Up Across the Flex,” and “Lookin’ Out My Back again Door.” Creedence also produced great albums — Green River, Willy and the indegent Young boys, and Cosmo’s Manufacturer all rank one of the better from the rock and roll period — but their accurate forte was like a singles music group. Once the Beatles split up in early 1970, CCR was the only real other work that offered any competition within the artwork of crafting striking, super-catchy artistic claims that soared towards the top reaches from the graphs every 3 or 4 weeks. Although they hailed through the San Francisco region, they hardly ever succumbed to the psychedelic indulgences from the period. John Fogerty also demonstrated adept at voicing the worries of the operating class in tracks like “Fortunate Boy,” in addition to partying with just as much funk as any white rock-band would muster on “Travelin’ Music group” and “Down on the Part.” With John Fogerty keeping such a solid top hands, Creedence couldn’t become said to have already been a democratic device, and Fogerty’s dominance was to sow the seed products from the group’s quick dissolution. Tom Fogerty remaining in 1971 (documenting several unremarkable single albums of his personal), reducing the music group to some trio. John allowed drummer Doug Clifford and bassist Stu Make equal stocks of songwriting and vocal period over the group’s last record, Mardi Gras (1972), which demonstrated conclusively that Fogerty’s music and singing had been necessary to increase CCR above journeyman position. It had been John Fogerty, needless to say, who produced the only real notable work following the quartet split up. Also his single outings, though, had been erratic and, for pretty much ten years, non-existent as he became embroiled within a internet of business disputes with Illusion Information. His 1984 record Centerfield demonstrated he could still rock and roll in the classic Creedence mode once the heart transferred him, but Tom Fogerty’s loss of life in 1990 finished any hopes of the CCR reunion with the initial members intact.

#Fact
1 Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, the same year as Cream, The Doors, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, Etta James, Van Morrison, and Sly and the Family Stone.
2 Ranked #47 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Rock & Roll.
3 The band holds the record for the most number of No.2 chart hits without ever having had a No.1.
4 "Susie Q" was the band's only Top 40 hit that wasn't written by John Fogerty.
5 In the four years the band was together, they never had a #1 single in the US. But they did have 13 songs that reached the Top 40, including five singles that hit #2.
6 The band's name was a combination of several things. Credence Nuvall was a co-worker and friend of Tom Fogerty. A TV commercial for Olympia beer showed scenes of waterfalls and clean water supposedly used in beer making. The band had been playing together for nearly ten years under other band names and were finally able to try to make it to the big time late in 1967. It was a "revival" of sorts when things finally came together for the guys in the band.
7 Members have included John Fogerty, Tom Fogerty, Stu Cook, Doug Clifford
