Biography
The six-man Crash Crew recorded several old school anthems, among which (“High Powered Rap”) premiered before Grandmaster Flash found popular using the same jam (as “Independence”). Located in Harlem’s Lincoln Tasks, the collective was created by high-school close friends E.K. Mike C, Reggie Reg (Reginald Payne), La Shubee, Barry Bistro, G-Man, and DJ Darryl C (Darryl Calloway). Starting around 1977, gigs at stop celebrations and Harlem’s Golf club 197 offered them encounter, and E.K. Mike C’s studio room connection offered them an opportunity to record very much earlier than almost every other rappers. Borrowing in the funk monitor “Get right up and Dance” by Independence, Crash Crew documented a short demonstration named “Great Driven Rap” and marketed the self-released one to supporters at shows. Period hasn’t documented whether Glucose Hill got the theory for a fresh recording in line with the tune from Crash Staff or various other supply, but regardless, the very first nationwide strike for Grandmaster Display & the Furious Five was 1980’s “Independence,” in line with the same tune. The group’s initial release on Glucose Hill, the one reached the R&B graphs — it had been indeed far more advanced than Crash Crew’s edition — and triggered some enmity between your two serves. Ironically, Crash Staff soon made their very own appearance on Glucose Hill, with a number of tracks, including outdated college classics “WE HAVE BEEN Referred to as Emcee’s (We Convert Celebrations Out)” and “Breakin’ Bells (Consider Me towards the Mardi Gras).” Despite having five rappers, Crash Staff wasn’t an extremely talented rap group; they excelled at party jams with a whole lot of do it again choruses rather than rapping. The group vanished immediately after, and none from the associates continued within the music sector. In 2000, Sequel put together their work with the collection WE HAVE BEEN Emcees.
