Cousteau

Biography

Cousteau debuted in 1999 having a self-released, eponymous work showcasing their chocolate-smooth mixture of Bacharach-style songwriting with modernist flourishes of groove and consumer electronics. The brainchild of experienced songwriter and piano guy Davey Ray Moor, Cousteau also included lead vocalist Liam McKahey, guitarist Robin Dark brown, bassist Joe Peet (who also added violin), and drummer Craig Vear. The debut produced quite a mix within the band’s London house base, and quickly the independent work was found by Hand. Cousteau decreased stateside in 2000, as well as the combo ruffled feathers having a golf club tour, come crucial appreciation of the solid Scott Walker, Roxy Music, and Nick Cave affects, and short radio play at adult option and modern rock and roll outlets friendly towards the combo’s burnished audio. Cousteau came back in July 2002 using the luxurious, believe it or not ambitious Sirena and ready to get more touring. Davey Ray Moor amazed the group by the end of its American tour in Boston by declaring his motives to pursue his personal work. After ending up in the remaining users, Liam McKahey, despite being truly a songwriting novice, required it upon himself to fill up the compositional opening remaining by longtime bandleader Moor, as well as the group, right now joined by key pad participant Dan Moore, came back to the studio room to record its third full-length recording, Nova Scotia, for Undertaking Information. The record premiered within the U.K. in 2005, but an array of legal technicalities avoided the group from keeping its longtime moniker. In 2006, Nova Scotia, with the recently minted Moreau, appeared nationally on Ten Small Indian Records.

#Quote
1 The sea is the universal sewer. [on the sea as a place "where all kinds of pollution wind up," to House Committee on Science and Astronautics, 28 January 1971]
2 What is a scientist after all? It is a curious man looking through a keyhole, the keyhole of nature, trying to know what's going on.
3 If we go on the way we have, the fault is our greed [and] if we are not willing [to change], we will disappear from the face of the globe, to be replaced by the insect.
4 Farming as we do it is hunting, and in the sea we act like barbarians.
5 We must plant the sea and herd its animals ... using the sea as farmers instead of hunters. That is what civilization is all about - farming replacing hunting. [Interview, 17 July 1971]
6 It takes generosity to discover the whole through others. If you realize you are only a violin, you can open yourself up to the world by playing your role in the concert.
