Costin Cazaban

A fascination with music time and music space has fueled the innovative compositions of Romania-born and France-based composer Costin Cazaban. Motivated with the philosophies of Stephen Lupasco, Cazaban provides continued to build up his unique ideas of structure and music evaluation. Released by Editions Salabert, his compositions have already been performed frequently at music celebrations throughout European countries. Composing music because the early ’70s, Cazaban gained a doctorate of music in the School of Paris in 1993. His thesis, “Temps Musical/Espace Musical Comme Fonctions Logiques,” presented his interpretation of Lupasco’s school of thought. Cazaban’s music continues to be presented in a number of forms. While his debut record, Four Stars, centered on single flute compositions by Salvatore Sciarrino, his second record, Flutes a Vide, highlighted original pieces constructed for dual basses, a clarinet, and string trio and a string quartet; aswell as compositions for piano and documenting tape, and flute and documenting tape. Cazaban provides written feature content and critiques for Le Monde and Le Monde de la Musique.
