Copperhead was a music group organized by guitarist John Cipollina after he still left Quicksilver Messenger Assistance in 1970. Cipollina, who was simply an associate of Quicksilver since its development and whose business lead electric guitar playing was its personal sound, had expanded increasingly dissatisfied following the come back of band creator Dino Valenti from a jail term, once the group grew bigger and he discovered he had much less space to try out. He previously also grown significantly thinking about playing sessions, that your band discouraged. The first times of Copperhead had been casual, using the group comprising a loose aggregation of individuals playing gigs with Cipollina. Ultimately it coalesced right into a quartet comprising Cipolliana on business lead acoustic guitar; Gary Philippet on vocals, second acoustic guitar, and body organ; Jim McPherson on vocals, bass, and piano; and David Weber on drums. The group was authorized to the Simply Sunshine label operate by Michael Lang, among the organizers of Woodstock. However in 1972 it had been authorized to a major-label record offer by Clive Davis at Columbia and documented its debut recording, Copperhead, released in the springtime of 1973. Regrettably, Davis was terminated from Columbia soon after the album’s launch, an actions that doomed any developing music group that were authorized under his aegis. The recording went nowhere, so when Columbia refused release a their second recording, Copperhead folded. Cipollina continued to play in lots of different rings before dying in 1989.
