Cooly G (Merrisa Campbell) is a vocalist, manufacturer, and DJ — a fixture of England’s esteemed Hyperdub label since 2009. That is the calendar year she released the 12″ “Narst,” having a battering A-side supported by “Like (Dub),” a gentle collision between fans rock and roll reggae and modern R&B. By the finish of 2009, she distributed a divide 12″ with Mala within Hyperdub’s group of five-year wedding anniversary releases. The next calendar year included another Hyperdub 12″ another split, this time around distributed to Scratcha DVA on DVA Music. Her “revoice” of Ruler Midas Sound’s “Meltdown” — retitled “Spin Me Around” — was among the standouts on Ruler Midas Sound’s 2011 Without You compilation. The steamy vocal she documented for it directed just how toward her initial two albums, Playin’ Me (2012) and Wait around ‘Til Evening (2014), both which had been released on Hyperdub. Armz Home, an EP of stripped-down membership tracks, implemented in 2015. She’s also remixed monitors by No 7 (“Medication Guy”), V.V. Dark brown (“Video game Over”), Ke$ha (“Tik Tok”), Talk Debelle (“I’m with It”), as well as the Knife (“A Teeth for an Eyes”).
