Home / Biography / Contriva

Berlin’s Contriva developed from a somewhat derivative post-rock music group to an electric pop music group with an identification almost all their own. Created in the middle-’90s, the group in the beginning came together like a trio, composed of drummer Hanns Lehmann, bassist Masha Qrella, and guitarist Maximum Punktezahl. In 1997, the group obtained keyboardist Rike Schuberty, and at this time made a mindful move toward incorporating the constructions of pop tunes into their materials. After many low-key produces through singles and compilations, Inform Me When, their 1st full-length, premiered in 2000. Another year saw the discharge of 8 Eye (1996-1999), a two-disc bundle on Monika of the hard-to-find releases and many remixes from famous brands Jan Jelinek, Superpitcher, Tom Thiel, and J. Burger. Burger’s remix from the group’s “THE NEXT TIME” was also a spotlight of the wonderful 2001 compilation Teil 1, the very first release around the Leichtes Hören label.
