Conjunto Alma Jarocha

Located in the Mexican slot city of Veracruz, Conjunto Alma Jarocha consider an ultra-smooth method of the accelerated syncopated rhythms, basic melodies, and imaginative improvisation from the son jarocha tradition of Mexico. A lot of the band’s exclusive sound comes from indigenous equipment including the huge, solid wood, harp-like arpa jarocha; a four-string electric guitar, requinto jarocha, that’s plucked; and a little, ten-stringed electric guitar, jarana, that’s strummed. Conjunto Alma Jarocha documented their sole record, Sones Jarochos, beneath the guidance of Arhoolie owner and manufacturer Chris Strachwitz and documenting engineer Dan Sheehy.
