Originally formed in 1964 because the Classics (adopting the name CFUN Classics if they gigged to market local Vancouver, BC radio station CFUN-AM), the group were featured because the house band about Let’s Go, a weekly Television show. In 1965, they released two singles because the Canadian Classics — “Til I Met You” (Jaguar 2002A) and “I HAVE NO IDEA” (Valiant 723). The music group reinvented themselves because the Enthusiasts in 1966. With previous horn participant Howie Vickers managing lead vocals, they cut “Eye” and “Don’t Experience Poor” — both which later on appeared on the annals of Vancouver Stone, Quantity 4 (VRCA 004; 1991.) “Eye” — an excellent folk melody seasoned with tasty acoustic guitar and only a dash of psychedelia — can be easily the greater track. “Don’t Experience Bad” includes a hazy “On Broadway” experience. More elaborately created, it also appears a less real work. By 1967, furthermore to lead vocalist Howie Vickers, the Enthusiasts included Claire Lawrence (tenor sax, body organ, recorder, flute), Expenses Henderson (business lead acoustic guitar), Glenn Miller (bass) and Ross Turney (drums) — the band’s “traditional” line-up. Recordings out of this period are the Vancouver smash strike “Lookin’ in a Baby” (New Symptoms 16, 1967, consequently reissued on the annals of Vancouver Rock and roll, Quantity 3 VRCA 001, 1983) and two various other 45s, “Fisherwoman” and “Unwanted fat Parrot.” “Lookin’ in a Baby” is normally MOR flute-pop floating amidst heady clouds of psychedelia. Vickers’ departure in the Enthusiasts in 1969 necessitated Henderson’s advertising to business lead vocalist. Ultimately, the music group rechristened themselves Chilliwack.
