Colin Thurston

Colin Thurston was one of the top producers of the brand new influx, helming era-defining strikes including Duran Duran’s “Hungry Just like the Wolf” and Kajagoogoo’s “Too Timid.” Delivered in Singapore in 1947, Thurston started his profession playing electric guitar in some little-known rings — in annoyance he considered jingle composing, but rock and roll & roll continued to be his interest and in the middle-’70s he started are an engineer in a little London recording studio room. In 1977 Thurston was recruited by manufacturer Tony Visconti to engineer two of the year’s landmark LPs, David Bowie’s Heroes and Iggy Pop’s Lust forever. When Visconti dropped to utilize the important post-punk outfit Mag, the group recruited Thurston rather, and via their 1979 discharge, Secondhand Daylight, he gained his initial credit being a manufacturer, instilling the record using the icy, remote control textures that could confirm his sonic brand. Thurston next agreed upon on using the pioneering synth pop device the Human Group, helming their early initiatives Duplication and Travelogue. By all accounts he was jet-lagged and brusque when initial presented to Duran Duran in 1980, but by the finish of the live established he enthusiastically decided to make their initial EMI one — the periods instead yielded fifty percent of the band’s self-titled 1981 debut LP, and in the wake of smash singles like “Young ladies on Film” and “THE WORLD,” Duran Duran had been typically the most popular brand-new music group in Britain. Their 1982 follow-up, Rio, also released the quintet to stateside stardom on the effectiveness of MTV smashes “Hungry Just like the Wolf” and “Conserve a Prayer,” and in 1983 Thurston and Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes teamed to co-produce Kajagoogoo’s discovery hit, “As well Timid.” Nevertheless, Thurston didn’t participate in classes for Duran Duran’s follow-up, Seven as well as the Ragged Tiger, and despite credits including Bow Wow Wow’s I’D LIKE Candy, Chat Talk’s The Party’s Over, and Howard Jones’ Human’s Lib, his profession gradually but inexorably floor to some halt. Following a long disease, Thurston passed away January 15, 2007, at age group 59.
