Cocco

Often likened to some Japanese Alanis Morissette or Fiona Apple, Cocco (true name Tomoko Makishi) mixes her inward, confessional lyrics with very difficult rock arrangements. With her earthy tone of voice, she is not even close to the most common, high-pitched Japanese pop starlets generally heard with the Western world — though she’s her soft, gorgeous tones aswell. Delivered in Okinawa, the birthplace of several a Japanese pop and rock and roll superstar, Cocco got her focus on a self-titled EP in 1996. Her profession became popular when Tower Information Japan decided to go with her tune — “Sing a Tune: No Music No Lifestyle,” a “Provide Peace an opportunity”-like stomping singalong — as their theme music for some advertisements. That and an effective 1997 appearance in the us at Austin’s South by Southwest music fest changed her into an indie achievement. Her first record, Bouganvillia, was popular, and her second one bought from the thousands. Keeping on Speedstar Information, a department of Victor Information, Cocco began the most common plan of annual produces with several choice concerts around Japan. By enough time of the discharge of her second record, Kumuita, she hinted at retiring, but continuing working, launching Rapunzel in 2000, which raised the Japanese graphs to number 1. After the discharge of her 4th record, Sangrose, Cocco known as it quits in 2001, stating she wished to continue indefinite hiatus and go back to her hometown.
