Golf club d’Elf certainly are a Boston-based collective centered around electric powered bassist and guitarist Mike Rivard along with a primary of primary conspirators. After years as you of Boston’s most in-demand bass players (the storyplot, Morphine, Either/Orchestra), Rivard offers produced many musical connections, and uses these to call in an incredibly wide selection of visitor musicians/club users. The band’s self-described idea is usually “live dub-trance-groove excursions, incorporating electronica, hip-hop, funk, and free of charge jazz in addition to Moroccan and Western African trance customs.” The end result is the groove, but almost always there is far more happening than your fundamental jam band. Primary users Jerry Leake and Brahim Fribgane add globe music colorings, and guests range between Moroccan Gnawa music artists to avant guitarist Reeves Gabrels to nation picker Duke Levine and beyond (John Medeski, Mat Maneri, Joe Maneri). Following a two-year residency on the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Membership d’Elf released As Above: Live on the Lizard Lounge, a double-disc collection culled from six displays in November of 2000. Some seven double-disc models of live materials followed on the next many years before they released Today I AM AWARE, their first studio room providing, in 2006. A long time in the producing, their second studio room set, Electric powered Moroccoland/Therefore Below, found its way to 2011. Live at Membership Helsinki was documented in 2012 but wasn’t released until early 2017.
