Biography
Pianist Clayton Like was a prominent person in Ike Turner’s Kings of Tempo through the mid-’50s, building a few of his finest platters using the legendary music group. But Love produced his initial vinyl appearance on Lillian McMurry’s Jackson, MS-based Trumpet Information in 1951 along with his very own leap band, the Shufflers. The combo was a fixture around Vicksburg, where Like was participating in Alcorn A&M being a pre-med pupil. Love’s cousin, Natchez bandleader Earl Reed, got documented for Trumpet and suggested his young in accordance with McMurry. Love’s 1951 debut, “Susie”/ “Shufflin’ with Like,” exhibited infectious excitement if not really a lot of polish. Following that, Love moved to Aladdin in 1952 (with saxist Raymond Hill’s music group backing him), Contemporary (with Turner on acoustic guitar) and Groove in 1954, and in 1957, Like fronted and performed the 88s with Turner as well as the Kings of Tempo on their Federal government platters “WOULD YOU Mean It,” “She Produced My Blood Operate Chilly,” and “THE BEST Query.” Turner experienced nothing in connection with Love’s couple of 1958 singles for St. Louis-based Bobbin Information; bassist Roosevelt Marks led the support music group for the smart coupling “Small Like”/ “Unlimited Like.” Long resolved within the Gateway City, Like made an recording for Contemporary Blues Recordings in 1991 with fellow ivories aces Johnnie Johnson and Jimmy Vaughn, Rockin’ Eighty-Eights.
