A vocalist who combined classic blues components with traditional jazz. She analyzed piano in Tacoma, after that played in dance clubs through the entire Northwest. Through the middle-’40s, Austin sang within the Midwest. She documented with Turk Murphy in the first and middle-’50s, and led an all-star group in 1955 and 1956. Austin documented once again for the GHB label in 1966.
