Kaua’i -based multi-instrumentalist Cindy Combs is among the few women to understand the slack essential guitar custom of Hawaii. A previous student of important slack essential guitarist Keola Beamer, Combs is growing as a new player, mixing traditional Hawaiian music with great jazz influences. Associated with her nine-piece music group, Ha’awi Hemolele ‘O Keakawaiola, along with a hula dancer, Combs opened up for Taj Mahal in a much-publicized advantage concert for Kaua’i community radio place, KKCR, in springtime 2002. Showing up every Fri at Hanapepe Café in Hanapepe City since 1997, Combs lately began executing, every Saturday, on the Kaua’i Coconut Seaside Hotel. Music provides played an important function throughout Combs’ lifestyle. Her mother performed piano and body organ while her dad performed violin. Although her delivery certificate lists NORTH PARK as her birthplace, she spent her early youth vacationing with her parents and sister. Playing ukulele as a young child, Combs was deeply inspired by American vocalist/songwriters including Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. Participating in a concert by slack essential electric guitar wiz Beamer, she was therefore impressed that she proceeded to go backstage and persuaded him to instruct her to try out slack key electric guitar. Combs produced her saving debut on Such as a Seabird within the Blowing wind, an record by Jerry Santos and Robert Beaumont’s duo, Olomana. Furthermore to documenting two impressive single albums — Property from the Endless Summer months in 1998 and Slack Essential Female in 2000 — Combs continues to be highlighted on albums by Michael Barretto as well as the Ka’au Crater Guys. Sunny Rain made an appearance from RCA in 2007.
