Biography

A longtime fixture from the Bay Area power pop picture, Chris Von Sneidern was among the pop underground’s even more accomplished singer/songwriters, earning a cult following having a string of indie produces through the ’90s. Given birth to in Syracuse, NY, Von Sneidern became a member of a local clothing known as the U-Turns in the first ’80s before relocating to SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA in 1985. He used several locally centered power pop rings — like the Shed Patrol and (as bassist) the Sneetches — before becoming a member of Soaring Color as guitarist in 1987. Once they split up in 1990, Von Sneidern strike the street with former Defeat innovator Paul Collins and resided for a short while in NY before time for SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA to go after a solo profession. He surfaced around the Heyday label and released his self-produced debut recording, View & Sound, in 1993; furthermore to earning raves from power pop followers, it also presented a visitor appearance from John Wesley Harding, with whom Von Sneidern would collaborate regularly in the a long time. The follow-up, Big White colored Lies, made an appearance in 1994, so when term of Von Sneidern’s music spread within the pop underground, he found even more production work furthermore to his personal recordings, and opened up his personal Bay Area studio room. When Von Sneidern came back along with his third recording, Proceed!, in 1996, he was on the neighborhood indie Mod Lang; that label also released the follow-up, 1998’s Solid wood + Wire. For his following task, Von Sneidern created a spirit/R&B-influenced outfit known as the Sportsmen, which also presented pianist Khoi-San, guitarist Dave “Shaggy” Gleason, bassist Teenage Rob, and drummer Derek Ritchie. Their debut recording, Spirited, premiered in 1999 by japan Lazy Kitty label. Von Sneidern consequently formed his personal label, which allowed him release a several idiosyncratic tasks in 2000. Initial arrived London Payne (subtitled Searching the Muse: Memoirs Across America), which arranged poetry by John R. Dykes to music; it had been accompanied by 2-adorable 2-become 4-gotten, an identical workout that drew from poetry compiled by teenage women. Finally, there is yet another live record spanning 1998-2000, Live Begin Lifting.
