Like Glenn Kotche and Tim Barnes, drummer Chris Corsano produced a name for himself as an avant-garde drum expert equally adept in pop configurations, and a expert inventor both in. With an expressive palette created from numerous prepared drum methods, including butter kitchen knives and kitchen bowls within the drum mind, Corsano collaborated with Björk, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, and Jim O’Rourke while keeping ongoing partnerships with famous brands saxophonist Paul Flaherty, Vibracathedral Orchestra’s Michael Blossom, and many more. Born and elevated in NJ, Corsano advanced from classic rock and roll drumming to punk in senior high school, before finding improvisation while participating in Hampshire University in Amherst, Massachusetts. There, in 13 Measure, along with upcoming High Firs guitarist Aaron Mullan, Corsano begun to stretch out. Motivated by the radiant Traditional western Massachusetts improv picture, including some shows in the summertime of 1996 with the No-Neck Blues Band, Harry Pussy, and Flaherty-Colburne Quintet, Corsano shortly found himself an integral part of it. His drumming became a way to obtain nearly melodic structure just as much as tempo. Corsano performed with lots of the leading lighting of the picture, including flagship collective Sunburned Hands of the person, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon (relocated from Manhattan to Northampton), and saxophonist Paul Flaherty. He was frequently transient, surviving in NEW YORK, Edinburgh, and Manchester. A vacation to Japan in 2005 yielded many albums, including a program with Jim O’Rourke and Darin Grey as Osorezan, in addition to work support the veteran Japanese saxophonist Akira Sakata. Within the years pursuing, Corsano began some adventurous single recordings, including 2006’s The Little Cricketer and BLOOD CIRCULATION PRESSURE (which highlighted no drums in any way, only a key pad and a mike). By 2007, his function had attracted the eye of Icelandic avant-popper Björk, whom he became a member of (alongside Lightning Bolt drummer Brian Chippendale) on 2007’s Volta, in addition to subsequent travels, his first knowledge playing exactly the same drum component every evening. His collaborations and single projects continuing unabated, including stints with psych-folk mainstays Six Organs of Admittance, the prolific New Britain duo of Matt Valentine and Erika Elder, and incomprehensible Tx weirdo Jandek.
