Choo Hoey is really a Singaporean conductor. He was drawn to music as a kid and began lessons around the violin along with his father’s help. After completing primary college in 1945, he continuing his education in the Chinese SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL in Singapore. He began monitoring violin with Goh Quickly Tioe in 1947 and finished senior high school in 1951. He visited London to review in the Royal Academy of Music, and analyzed violin with David Martin and André Gertler, horn with Aubrey Mind, and performing with Maurice Kilometers and Igor Markevitch. Since his general public debut in 1958, Choo started conducting main orchestras in European countries, and from 1968 to 1977, he was the main conductor from the Greek Country wide Opera. In 1978, he was asked by the federal government of Singapore to create the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, which he offered as citizen conductor and music movie director until 1996, when he was called conductor emeritus.
