Chimurenga Renaissance

A Zimbabwean-centered hip-hop task from Shabazz Palaces member Tendai “Baba” Maraire, Chimurenga Renaissance was formed in 2012 when Maraire teamed with Hussein Kalonji, the rapper formerly referred to as H-Bomb. That same yr, the group released their mixture of digital (ie. synths and examples) and organic (ie. ngoma drums and mbira thumb pianos) on Pungwe, a mixtape where performers like Bob Marley and Spice 1 had been blended with African performers like Thomas Mapfumo and Youssou N’Dour. In 2014 the task made its standard debut for the Brick Street label with riZe vadZimu riZe. The recording featured a visitor appearance from Deceased Prez member M1 along with Maraire’s Shabazz Palaces partner, Palaceer Lazaro.
