Chicken Chest

b. Alton O’Reilly, 28 November 1962, St. Thomas, Jamaica, Western world Indies. Demonstrating his abilities being a wordsmith during his formative years, O’Reilly gained several honours for drama, talk and poetry. On departing college he was utilized at his sibling’s Fried Poultry cafe in downtown Kingston, and would frequently entertain the clients by chanting within a DJ design, which resulted in his pseudonym. He performed over the audio system circuit whenever the chance arose, and finally released his debut, ‘Ragamuffin Selector’. The music brought him nationwide popularity in Jamaica and in 1988 he was asked to tour Africa and European countries alongside Gregory Isaacs and Edi Fitzroy. Although he previously only one strike, audiences were amused by his strutting and chest-beating, interspersed with the casual crowing. Following a successful tour, Poultry Chest was asked to perform in the Jamaican Nelson Mandela special birthday, accompanied by an similarly successful appearance in the annual Reggae Sunsplash Event. His follow-up, ‘Adverse Can’t Conquer Positive’, pre-empted his competitors’ accusations that he was a one-hit-wonder. He taken care of his dancehall trustworthiness by performing for the Arrows audio system in Jamaica, where he released Leslie Thunder towards the dancehall substantial. His popularity within the dancehall lasted just briefly, and he offers since came back to anonymity.
