Possibly the lone artist who got her start The Gong Present and continued to be credible, Cheryl Lynn’s searing, frequently fascinating voice and great range were showcased in some marvelous dance hits in the later ’70s and early ’80s. She authorized with Columbia in 1978, and her debut LP Cheryl Lynn presented the anthem “SURELY GOT TO Be Genuine,” which topped the R&B graphs and reached quantity 12 pop. The follow-up, “Celebrity Like,” was a high 20 R&B strike, and Lynn held things choosing “Tremble It Up Tonight” in 1981, another Top 10 R&B smash. She teamed brillantly with Luther Vandross to get a remake of “If This Globe Had been Mine” in 1982, another Top 10 hit, and Lynn topped the R&B graphs in 1983 with “Encore.” She remained on Columbia until 1987, after that shifted to Manhattan, where in fact the 1987 solitary “IN THE EVENT THAT YOU Were Mine” managed to get to quantity 11.
