The dance traditions of western Africa are preserved through the workshops and concerts of Senegal-born percussionist/dancer Cheikh Tidiane Niane. A previous soloist for Senegal’s nationwide ballet troupe, Niane toured throughout Germany, Switzerland, and Austria for ten years. His workshops on African dance, which emphasize organic motion, feature his teaching arranged to the rhythms of his drum.
