The Cheater Slicks started in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1988, when brothers Tom and David Shannon — both guitarists — recruited drummer Dana Hatch and bassist Merle Allin (sibling of G.G. Allin) to try out in an unique, bluesy garage rock-band. After Allin, the Slicks used Alpo (previously of the true Children) on bass before scrapping the bassist idea totally and buying a three-piece lineup. In 1990, the Cheater Slicks opened up for Jon Spencer’s music group, Manager Hog. Spencer created the band’s 4th album, CAN’T STAND You, in 1995.
