Chateaux

Of all silly names particular by New Wave of British ROCK rings, Cheltenham, England’s Chateaux might just take the wedding cake — at least with regards to patriotic inappropriateness, if not inexplicability (Split Beaver or Ethel the Frog, anyone?). Regardless, the music group was produced circa 1981 by guitarist Tim Broughton, bassist Alec Houston, and drummer Andre Bayliss, and quickly discovered a house with upstart Ebony Information, which chosen their melody “Young Bloodstream” for addition on 1982’s Steel Maniaxe compilation, and for individual launch as an individual. By then, vocalist Steve Grimmett have been put into the lineup, and it had been his tone of voice that graced Chateaux’s full-length debut, Chained and Eager, just a yr later on. But, for factors unknown, all of those other group managed to get a spot to demand at every chance that Grimmett was only a guest, departing the leave door open up for him to refocus on labelmates Grim Reaper, with whom he continued to find much larger fame. Ironically, since it quickly transpired, just guitarist and main songwriter Broughton was assured a chair in the desk, and by the discharge of the next year’s sophomore Firepower LP, both Houston and Bayliss have been changed by vocalist/bassist Krys Mason and drummer Chris Dadson (ex-Aragorn). Probably, and although Grimmett was certainly a far more talented singer general, many observers thought that the switch was for the better, with this recording pursuing a far more immediate and energetic path than Chateaux’s occasionally overwrought debut — which itself experienced shown a substantial amount of promise, actually. The same cannot be stated for 1985’s honestly water-treading Highly Strung recording, whereupon headbanging energy experienced clearly used precedence over anything remotely smart or unique, and, when unsatisfactory sales combined with band’s reluctance to tour outside its regional region, enough time was nigh for the users of Chateaux to bet their followers adieu and proceed their separate methods.
