Charly McClain

Originally named Charlotte, Charly McClain was presented with her masculine moniker simply by neighborhood friends in Memphis, and she also used it when she started playing hotel lounges. When Epic Information made the decision it sounded catchier than Charlotte, it became a long term professional banner. McClain’s dad experienced tuberculosis when she was eight, and, since she was underage for visitation privileges at a healthcare facility, she needed to talk to him through a tape recorder. That influenced her desire for documenting, and by age group 17 she was a normal on the golf club circuit. Authorized to her 1st recording agreement in 1976, McClain’s unique vocal sound offered an advantage in recognizability — as do her appearance.
