b. 25 June 1890, Philadelphia, Pa, USA, d. 18 January 1978, Beverly Hillsides, California, USA. A high, slender and hugely likeable musical humor and film celebrity who graced many musical pictures within the 40s with her spunky and eccentric design and incredibly loose-jointed high-kick. Greenwood initial came to see on Broadway within the Passing Present Of 1913, and in the next year made this impression with her ‘flat-footed’ kicks and ‘splits’ in Pretty Miss Smith, especially in one amount, ‘Long, Trim, Lanky Letty’, that manufacturer Oliver Morosco re-titled the present Long-Legged Letty. 1 Was a staunch Democrat and a solid supporter of Franklin D. Roosevelt.
2 Although she died in 1977, her death was not reported to the public until Valentines Day 1978 when an obituary appeared in the New York Times, stating she had no known survivors and that she left her personal papers to play writer William Luce as per her final wishes.
3 Upon her death, she was cremated and her ashes scattered at sea.
4 She was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Radio at 1601 Vine Street in Hollywood, California.

7 Originally had a prominent part in the Broadway version of "Annie Get Your Gun". At the insistence of star Ethel Merman, the part was pared down to almost nothing. When a dispirited Greenwood gave co-producer Richard Rodgers notice, a sympathetic Rodgers replied, "Letty, I can hardly blame you.".
8 Her first marriage to actor Cyril Ring, brother of screen legend Blanche Ring, ended in scandal after only six years; her second marriage to musician Martin Broones was long and happy.
9 Greenwood was the original choice to play "Aunt Eller" in the Broadway musical "Oklahoma!" In fact, the part was conceived with her in mind. Film commitments, however, kept her from doing the role and the part went to actress Betty Garde. As a testament to her popularity, Greenwood was asked to do the film version over a decade later.
10 Even when well into middle age, she could perform complete leg-splits as well as kick higher than the top of her own head - sideways!
