Charles Sheffield

Charles Sheffield was an early-’60s R&B vocalist from Lake Charles, LA, noted for the community/regional strike “It’s Your Voodoo Functioning,” that is acclaimed more right now than when it debuted on Excello Information in 1961. Sheffield (aka Mad Puppy) was miscast in his birthplace, that is known for generating zydeco musicians, not really blues or R&B performers. Boozoo Chavis and Rockin’ Sidney are from the region, in addition to Goldband Studios, where in fact the zydeco performers whack out their art. Sheffield did utilize the studios, though he documented in a completely different design. He cut “It’s Your Voodoo Functioning” at Crowley Studios, nevertheless, that is most mentioned for blues and R&B recordings. Sheffield published it and about five additional tunes that he documented.
