Charles Frohman

b. 17 June 1860, Sandusky, Ohio, USA, d. 7 Might 1915, Atlantic Sea. Intent on the existence in the theater, Frohman required many menial backstage careers as he discovered his trade. He was still just in his mid-twenties when he staged his 1st creation and was quickly chalking up successes, included in this being the brand new York premiere of Oscar Wilde’s The Need for Becoming Earnest (1895). Contained in the second option was Jerome Kern’s classic regular, ‘They Didn’t Believe Me’. In 1915 Frohman was aboard the S.S. Lusitania when the dispatch was torpedoed from the coastline of Ireland. Reputedly, prior to the ship transpired, he quoted a collection from Peter Skillet : ‘To pass away will be an awfully big experience.’
